Professional Vacuum Record Cleaning Machine • Bidirectional Scrubbing & Vacuuming • 18 RPM High-Torque Motor • Powerful Vacuum System • Aluminum Enclosure • Stainless-Steel Waste Tank • Delrin Record Clamp

Deep Bidirectional Vinyl Cleaning with the VPI MW-1 Cyclone

The VPI MW-1 Cyclone Record Cleaning Machine is a heavy-duty wet/vacuum record cleaner designed to remove contaminants from deep within a vinyl record's grooves. Unlike conventional machines that rotate in only one direction, the Cyclone can scrub and vacuum clockwise and counterclockwise, allowing its cleaning fluid and brush to work the groove from both directions before the powerful vacuum system removes loosened debris and used solution.

Built as a modern tribute to VPI's legendary record-cleaning machines, the MW-1 combines a high-torque 18 RPM reversible platter motor with an aluminum enclosure, welded stainless-steel waste tank and industrial-quality controls. A powerful vacuum pickup system quickly removes fluid from the record surface, while the supplied 2-inch Delrin clamp holds the record securely during the cleaning process.

Highlights & Benefits

  • Bidirectional Cleaning — Scrub and vacuum records in both forward and reverse directions to work cleaning solution through the groove from multiple angles.
  • High-Torque 18 RPM Motor — The heavy-duty geared platter motor provides controlled rotation in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions.
  • Powerful Vacuum Drying — The vacuum pickup tube removes used cleaning solution and suspended contaminants while leaving the record dry and ready to play.
  • Heavy-Duty Metal Construction — An aluminum outer enclosure and welded stainless-steel waste tank provide greater durability for frequent record cleaning.
  • Professional-Grade Controls — Industrial-quality toggle switches provide straightforward control over platter direction and vacuum operation.

Technology & Design

Forward and Reverse Groove Cleaning — The VPI MW-1 Cyclone Record Cleaning Machine uses a reversible platter motor so the brush can work cleaning fluid through the groove in both directions. The same bidirectional operation can be used during vacuuming to help remove loosened material from the groove.

High-Power Vacuum Pickup System — After wet cleaning, the vacuum pickup tube is positioned over the record surface to extract fluid and suspended debris. VPI recommends approximately two rotations in each direction under vacuum in a typical cleaning cycle, although drying time can vary with the amount of solution applied.

Stainless-Steel Fluid Management — Used cleaning solution is collected inside a welded stainless-steel catch tank. A rear drain hose allows the waste reservoir to be emptied periodically rather than allowing used fluid to remain inside the machine.

Durable Aluminum Chassis — The Cyclone's aluminum enclosure was designed to be quieter and more durable than VPI's classic HW-16.5 architecture. A 2-inch Delrin clamp secures the record to the platter while helping protect the label area during wet cleaning.

FAQ — VPI MW-1 Cyclone Record Cleaning Machine

Does the MW-1 Cyclone clean in both directions?

Yes. The VPI MW-1 Cyclone Record Cleaning Machine features a reversible platter motor, allowing records to be scrubbed and vacuumed in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions.

How does the Cyclone dry the record?

A dedicated vacuum pickup tube contacts the record through protective velvet surfaces and extracts the cleaning solution along with loosened contamination. VPI notes that approximately two rotations in each direction are normally sufficient to leave a properly wetted record dry.

Can the MW-1 clean 7-inch and 10-inch records?

Yes, but VPI specifies that special adapters and appropriately sized vacuum pickup tubes are required for cleaning 7-inch 45 RPM and 10-inch 78 RPM records. Those accessories are sold separately.

Can alcohol-based cleaning solution be used on shellac 78 RPM records?

No. Alcohol-based record cleaners should never be used on shellac records. VPI recommends using an appropriate non-alcohol cleaning solution and separate cleaning brush and vacuum pickup tube when cleaning shellac records.
