The REL Acoustics Planar PL-2 Subwoofer delivers the scale, speed and low-frequency authority expected from a high-performance REL in a dramatically slimmer enclosure. Measuring only 5.7 inches deep, PL-2 is designed to work closely with the wall behind it, using boundary reinforcement to generate powerful, room-filling bass without requiring the floor space of a traditional cube-shaped subwoofer.
An 8-inch FlatPiston long-throw active driver works with a rear-mounted 10-inch passive radiator to produce fast, controlled bass with in-room extension down to 24Hz at -6dB. A powerful 550-watt Class D amplifier provides the current and control needed for demanding music and home theater systems, while built-in Airship Direct wireless connectivity, high-level input and LFE connectivity make the PL-2 remarkably flexible to install.
Boundary Effect Coupling — The REL Acoustics Planar PL-2 Subwoofer is designed to operate in close relationship with the wall behind it. This placement allows the room boundary to reinforce the lowest frequencies, helping the slim cabinet produce greater scale and extension than its depth would suggest.
FlatPiston Active Driver — The front-firing 8-inch driver uses a shallow, rigid piston designed specifically for the narrow Planar enclosure. Its long-throw suspension allows significant movement while maintaining the speed and control needed to blend naturally with high-quality main speakers.
Rear Passive Radiator — A 10-inch FibreAlloy passive radiator supports the active driver by extending low-frequency response without the turbulence or audible airflow associated with a conventional bass-reflex port. The result is clean, powerful bass from a sealed-looking, ultra-thin form.
Airship Direct Wireless Integration — PL-2 includes REL’s Airship Direct wireless system, with the receiver installed inside the subwoofer. The transmitter can carry REL high-level connection information or an LFE signal, preserving flexible system integration while reducing visible cabling.
Yes. The REL Acoustics Planar PL-2 Subwoofer includes a wall-mounting template, mounting brackets and appropriate mounting hardware. Installation should be performed on a structurally suitable wall by someone familiar with the wall construction and mounting requirements.
Yes. Airship Direct wireless connectivity is included, and the receiver is pre-installed inside the subwoofer. The supplied transmitter can be connected to a compatible amplifier, preamplifier or home theater processor.
Yes. The high-level Neutrik connection is designed for stereo music systems, while the dedicated RCA LFE input connects to the subwoofer output of an AV receiver or surround processor. Both connections may be used as part of a properly configured system.
PL-2 is the larger and more powerful Planar model. It uses an 8-inch FlatPiston active driver, a 550-watt amplifier and extends to approximately 24Hz in-room, making it better suited to larger speakers, medium-to-large rooms and systems requiring greater bass scale.
Optional Planar Cart, premium wood grille, Bassline Blue cable, amplifier, AV receiver, speakers and installation services are sold separately.
