Every component has been ruthlessly engineered to eliminate weight where it isn’t needed while maximizing rigidity where it matters. By isolating the tonearm and cartridge from unwanted energy absorption and motor vibrations, the Planar 8 lets you hear the raw, uncolored performance hidden deep within your record grooves.
Aerospace-Grade Skeletal Plinth: The heart of the Planar 8 is its ultra-lightweight Tancast 8 polyurethane foam core plinth, sandwiched between layers of High-Pressure Laminate (HPL). It is 30% lighter than the original RP8, yet delivers unmatched structural rigidity to prevent energy loss.
Double Brace Technology: Mass absorbs energy, and absorbed energy equals lost music. Rega uses a specific "stressed beam" design that mounts a rigid ceramic top brace and a brass bottom brace exactly where structural stiffness is needed most—directly between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing.
The RB880 Precision Tonearm: Featuring an all-new vertical bearing assembly with a thin-wall aluminum and stainless-steel structure, this arm offers zero-tolerance play and incredibly low friction. It allows your high-end cartridge to track complex passages with staggering accuracy.
Triple-Layer Glass Flywheel Platter: To achieve perfect, unwavering speed stability, Rega engineered a three-piece platter using custom-piloted float glass. By concentrating the weight on the outer rim, it creates a powerful flywheel effect while keeping the center of the platter incredibly lightweight.
Neo MK2 Electronic Power Supply: Each individual 24v low-noise motor is hand-matched to its own Neo power supply before leaving the factory. Utilizing a high-stability crystal generator, the Neo PSU delivers pristine, DSP-controlled power for absolute pitch perfection and instant speed changes.
