2.5-Way Floorstanding Design • UK-Made Glass-Reinforced Cement Cabinet • Front-Ported Band-Pass Enclosure • ZRR High-Frequency Unit • Handmade MX-125 Bass/Midrange Driver • Dedicated RR7.8 Bass Driver
The Rega AYA Floorstanding Speaker (Pair) combines Rega's handmade drive-unit technology with a distinctive glass-reinforced cement enclosure developed to deliver rigid, low-resonance construction without the cost and limitations of a conventional real-wood veneered cabinet. The result is a compact floorstanding loudspeaker engineered for tight bass, Rega's characteristically expressive midrange, and clean, detailed high frequencies.
AYA uses a 2.5-way driver configuration with three purpose-designed Rega transducers. A centrally positioned ZRR high-frequency unit is joined by a handmade 5-inch MX-125 bass/midrange driver and a dedicated 7-inch RR7.8 bass driver. By assigning the larger driver primarily to low-frequency reproduction, the system gains additional bass weight and scale while allowing the MX-125 to focus on the critical midrange.
The Rega AYA Floorstanding Speaker (Pair) is housed in a custom-molded glass-reinforced cement cabinet manufactured in the United Kingdom. Glass fibers increase structural integrity while helping manage weight, creating a rigid enclosure intended to minimize cabinet contribution and allow the drivers to reproduce the recording with greater clarity.
Its front-ported band-pass alignment makes the AYA easier to integrate into a broad range of listening rooms than many rear-ported floorstanding speakers. Bass response and stereo imaging can be adjusted by changing the distance from the rear and side walls, allowing the speaker to be tuned around the room, furnishings, flooring, and listening position.
With 89.5dB sensitivity, a 6-ohm nominal impedance, and power handling rated at 110 watts per channel, the Rega AYA Floorstanding Speaker (Pair) can be partnered with a wide range of quality integrated amplifiers and stereo power amplifiers. It is especially well suited to systems where rhythmic timing, natural vocals, and musical involvement take priority over an oversized cabinet or visually dominant speaker.
Designed and assembled in the United Kingdom, the AYA reflects Rega's longstanding approach of investing in engineering, materials, and manufacturing rather than unnecessary ornamentation. Each molded cabinet naturally displays small differences in shading, surface pattern, pinholes, and texture, giving every pair an individual appearance.
Glass-Reinforced Cement Cabinet — Rega developed the AYA enclosure after years of research into alternatives to conventional veneered MDF. The cabinet is molded from glass-reinforced cement, with fibers incorporated into the material to improve structural integrity while reducing unnecessary mass.
Rigid, Low-Resonance Construction — A loudspeaker cabinet should provide a stable platform for the drivers rather than storing and releasing acoustic energy. The high rigidity of the GRC enclosure helps reduce panel flex and unwanted cabinet contribution, allowing more of the amplifier's energy to be converted into controlled driver movement.
Individual Molded Appearance — The casting and finishing process gives every cabinet subtle variations in color, surface pattern, swirls, small pinholes, and texture. These characteristics are expected elements of the material rather than manufacturing defects.
2.5-Way Acoustic Architecture — The AYA uses a high-frequency unit, a bass/midrange driver, and a dedicated bass driver. The MX-125 covers the midrange and part of the low-frequency spectrum, while the larger RR7.8 reinforces the bass region to increase weight and extension without disrupting midrange integration.
Rega ZRR High-Frequency Unit — The centrally positioned ZRR tweeter is designed by Rega to deliver detailed high frequencies and integrate smoothly with the MX-125 bass/midrange driver. Its placement between the two cone drivers contributes to a compact acoustic source and balanced vertical dispersion.
Handmade MX-125 Bass/Midrange Driver — The 5-inch MX-125 is manufactured by Rega and is responsible for much of the speaker's vocal and instrumental character. Its relatively compact diaphragm supports quick response and controlled reproduction through the critical midband.
Handmade RR7.8 Dedicated Bass Driver — The 7-inch RR7.8 is engineered specifically for low-frequency reproduction. Its larger radiating area allows it to move more air than the MX-125, giving the AYA greater bass authority while preserving a slim front profile.
Front-Ported Band-Pass Enclosure — The low-frequency system uses a front-facing reflex opening as part of its band-pass cabinet alignment. Venting toward the listener reduces reliance on space directly behind the cabinet and helps make room placement more flexible.
Tunable Room Interaction — Bass balance and stereo imaging can be adjusted by moving the AYA closer to or farther from rear and side walls. Placement should be refined according to room dimensions, construction, furniture, flooring, and listening distance.
Matched Cable Lengths — Rega recommends using equal lengths of quality speaker cable for the left and right channels. Maintaining consistent cable length helps keep electrical resistance and channel behavior comparable across the stereo pair.
Stable Amplifier Load — The 6-ohm nominal impedance and 89.5dB sensitivity allow the AYA to work with a broad variety of compatible amplifiers. As with any passive loudspeaker, clean power and amplifier quality are more important than simply choosing the highest wattage rating.
110-Watt Power Handling — Rega rates the AYA for 110 watts per channel, while noting that practical power handling depends on the quality of the connected amplifier. A lower-powered amplifier driven into clipping can be more harmful than a more powerful amplifier used responsibly.
Magnetic Grille System — Optional grilles attach magnetically to the front-plate screws, avoiding permanent grille sockets on the visible baffle. The lightweight frames are covered with acoustically transparent cloth designed to minimize their influence on sound.
Grilles Sold Separately — Rega does not include the grilles as standard because many listeners prefer using the loudspeakers with the drivers exposed. This reduces unnecessary material use and keeps the standard package focused on acoustic performance.
Integrated Floorstanding Form — The cabinet incorporates a stable lower support structure, eliminating the need for separate speaker stands. Its narrow profile and sculpted shape help reduce visual bulk while maintaining the internal volume required by the acoustic design.
Rega System Matching — The AYA can be paired with Rega integrated amplifiers such as the Elex, Elicit, and Aethos, as well as other high-quality amplifiers capable of driving a 6-ohm loudspeaker load.
Music-First Engineering — Rather than using decorative materials solely for visual appeal, Rega developed the enclosure, drive units, and acoustic alignment around performance and value. The AYA is intended to reproduce bass with control, vocals with natural presence, and treble with clarity while maintaining rhythmic and musical coherence.
The AYA features a unique glass-reinforced cement (GRC) cabinet instead of a conventional MDF enclosure. This highly rigid construction helps reduce cabinet resonance while giving each speaker its own distinctive appearance.
Yes. The front-ported band-pass design offers greater placement flexibility than many rear-ported speakers, allowing the AYA to perform well in a variety of listening environments while still benefiting from careful positioning.
With a 6-ohm nominal impedance and 89.5dB sensitivity, the AYA works well with a wide range of quality integrated amplifiers and power amplifiers. It pairs especially well with Rega amplifiers including the Brio, Elex Mk4, Elicit Mk5, and Aethos.
No. The magnetic cloth grilles are available as an optional accessory and are sold separately. Many Rega owners prefer to use the speakers without grilles for their clean appearance.
