The Magnepan 30.7x Floorstanding Speaker (Pair) represents the most ambitious expression of Magnepan's full-range planar loudspeaker philosophy. Unlike a conventional pair of floorstanding speakers, the 30.7x is a four-panel reference system consisting of one dedicated bass panel and one separate midrange and tweeter panel for each stereo channel. This arrangement allows every section of the audible spectrum to operate across a large, purpose-designed radiating surface.
Its four-way ribbon and quasi-ribbon architecture is engineered to reproduce music with exceptional coherence, transient speed, tonal purity, and physical scale. By separating the bass panels from the midrange and high-frequency panels, the Magnepan 30.7x Floorstanding Speaker (Pair) gives listeners greater freedom when optimizing room placement, driver integration, image focus, and low-frequency performance.
Magnepan's premium X Series treatment builds upon the established 30.7 platform through three primary areas of refinement: Simplification, Component Betterment, and Balancing. Every stage between the amplifier terminals and planar drivers is evaluated to reduce unnecessary wiring, junctions, mass, resistance, and potential signal degradation.
Premium copper-rich polypropylene capacitors, high-gauge air-core copper inductors, carefully matched resistors, shortened solid-copper wiring, gilded hardware, and silver-soldered connections help the 30.7x preserve subtle musical information. Components are individually measured, sorted, paired, installed, and tested to maintain extremely close electrical consistency between the left and right channels.
The result is a reference loudspeaker system capable of creating a vast and deeply layered soundstage while remaining remarkably free from conventional speaker coloration. Four-Panel Reference Architecture — The 30.7x uses two panels for each stereo channel rather than placing every driver section within one frame. One panel is devoted to low-frequency reproduction, while the companion panel contains the midrange and high-frequency sections. This modular configuration allows the panels to be positioned independently for improved integration with the listening room.
Four-Way Planar Operation — The audible spectrum is divided among specialized planar sections designed to operate within optimized frequency ranges. Although each section serves a different purpose, their shared low-mass planar construction helps preserve coherence and consistent transient behavior from bass through treble.
Large-Area Planar Bass Reproduction — The dedicated bass panels use enormous radiating surfaces to move air without the long excursion required from conventional cone woofers. This approach produces low frequencies with exceptional speed, pitch definition, texture, and dynamic control.

Simplification — Magnepan reduces unnecessary electrical complexity wherever possible. Fewer components, shorter wiring paths, fewer junctions, and lower overall signal-path mass help reduce signal loss, degradation, and distortion before the musical signal reaches the planar drivers.
Component Betterment — The X Series replaces standard components between the speaker inputs and drivers with carefully selected premium alternatives. Copper-rich polypropylene capacitors, heavy-gauge copper air-core inductors, matched resistors, high-quality copper wiring, and improved hardware help preserve transparency and dynamics.
Individually Tested Capacitors — Capacitors and capacitor banks are measured, sorted, assembled, and tested repeatedly. Left and right crossover capacitance values are held within extremely close tolerances to improve channel matching and spatial precision.
Hand-Wound Air-Core Inductors — High-gauge copper air-core inductors are manufactured and tested by Magnepan. Inductance, direct-current resistance, Q value, and termination direction are evaluated so corresponding crossover sections can be accurately paired.
Precision-Matched Resistors — Where resistance is required, X Series circuits use carefully measured parallel resistor arrangements. The completed networks are tested again after assembly to maintain close correspondence between the two stereo channels.
Optimized Solid-Copper Wiring — High-quality solid copper conductors are used throughout most of the internal circuit. Excess assembly wire is eliminated, component layouts are carefully arranged, and signal paths are shortened to reduce overall wire mass and electrical resistance.
Silver-Soldered Connections — Internal connections from the input hardware through the crossover network and driver terminals are silver soldered wherever possible. Eliminating unnecessary mechanical connections helps maintain electrical consistency and long-term signal integrity.
Gilded X Series Hardware — Nameplate components and associated conductive hardware receive premium treatment as part of the X Series construction. Copper, silver solder, and gilded contact materials are used extensively throughout the signal path.
Precision Left-to-Right Balancing — The human ear is highly sensitive to differences between stereo channels. Magnepan repeatedly measures component values, crossover resistance, inductance, capacitance, and completed circuit impedance to keep the left and right channels as closely matched as possible.
Open-Baffle Dipole Radiation — Each panel radiates acoustic energy from both its front and rear surfaces. With proper distance from surrounding walls, the reflected rear wave contributes to a vast soundstage, natural ambience, and realistic depth without trapping energy inside a speaker enclosure.
