The JBL SDR-40 9-Channel AV Amplifier combines reference-level immersive audio processing with powerful onboard amplification in a single high-performance home theater component. With 16 channels of processing and nine channels of Class G amplification, it provides the flexibility needed for sophisticated surround and height-speaker layouts while allowing additional channels to be driven by external power amplifiers. Designed for premium home cinema installations, the SDR-40 supports Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, IMAX Enhanced, AURO-3D, and MPEG-H, while Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control help optimize speaker and subwoofer performance for the listening environment. HDMI 2.1a connectivity, high-resolution network streaming, extensive channel assignment, and 16 RCA preamp outputs make the SDR-40 a versatile foundation for both dedicated theaters and high-performance multipurpose AV systems.

How many speakers can the JBL SDR-40 power directly?

The SDR-40 includes nine channels of built-in Class G amplification. It can process up to 16 channels total, so additional channels can be powered using external amplifiers connected to its RCA preamp outputs.

How much power does the SDR-40 produce?

With all nine channels driven, the SDR-40 is rated at 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms. With two channels driven, output increases to 145 watts per channel into 8 ohms or 220 watts per channel into 4 ohms.

Does the SDR-40 include Dirac room correction?

Yes. It includes Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control. Dirac Active Room Treatment, or ART, is available as an optional upgrade.

Can the SDR-40 support a 16-channel home theater system?

Yes. The processor supports up to 16 channels. Nine channels can be powered directly by the receiver, while external amplifiers can be connected to the remaining preamp outputs as required by the system design.

Does the SDR-40 support 4K/120Hz and 8K video?
