Three-Way Invisible Loudspeaker • 8-Inch Woofer • Dedicated Midrange & High-Frequency Transducers • FidelityGlass™ Acoustic Panel • Integrated Sealed Back Box • In-Wall or In-Ceiling Installation
The JBL Conceal C83 8-Inch 3-Element Invisible Loudspeaker (Each) delivers powerful, full-range architectural sound while disappearing completely into the surrounding wall or ceiling. Its paintable acoustic surface is finished together with the adjoining drywall, allowing the loudspeaker to become visually indistinguishable from the room while maintaining the performance expected from a premium JBL installation.
Behind the finished surface, the C83 uses a true three-way design built around an 8-inch low-frequency woofer, a dedicated midrange transducer, and a separate high-frequency transducer. This specialized driver arrangement provides greater bandwidth, output capability, and vocal clarity than compact two-way invisible speakers while retaining a single-panel format.
The JBL Conceal C83 8-Inch 3-Element Invisible Loudspeaker (Each) is built around JBL's patented compression-molded baffle and proprietary FidelityGlass™ acoustic panel. The rigid panel transfers energy efficiently into the room while remaining suitable for paint, light texture, wallpaper, veneer, and other approved decorative finishes.
An integrated sealed wooden back box controls the acoustic environment behind the speaker and helps reduce sound transmission into adjacent rooms. Because the enclosure is already engineered as part of the loudspeaker, installation does not depend on an unpredictable open wall or ceiling cavity for its bass alignment.
With an in-room frequency response extending from 45Hz to 20kHz and recommended amplifier power of 50 to 160 watts RMS, the C83 is suitable for premium distributed audio, dedicated stereo systems, home theater channels, and immersive surround installations where visible grilles or speaker cabinets would compromise the design.
The finished loudspeaker installs similarly to a standard drywall patch. Once it has been mounted, tested, taped, feathered, sanded, primed, and painted by qualified professionals, the JBL Conceal C83 8-Inch 3-Element Invisible Loudspeaker (Each) provides high-performance sound with no visible speaker grille, frame, or enclosure.
Three-Element Acoustic Design — The C83 divides the audible spectrum among three specialized elements rather than asking one panel or transducer to reproduce the entire range. The 8-inch woofer handles low frequencies, the dedicated midrange reproduces voices and instruments, and the high-frequency element preserves treble detail and spatial information.
8-Inch Low-Frequency Driver — The concealed woofer uses an 8-inch diaphragm and 1.5-inch voice coil to create meaningful bass output behind the FidelityGlass™ surface. Its dedicated operating range allows the midrange and high-frequency elements to work with less excursion and distortion.
Neodymium Midrange Transducer — The mid-frequency element uses a 1.18-inch voice coil and neodymium magnetic motor. Its purpose is to improve clarity through the range where dialogue, vocals, guitars, piano, and many soundtrack effects carry their most recognizable tonal information.
Neodymium High-Frequency Transducer — The 1-inch voice-coil high-frequency element is designed to reproduce fine detail and extend the loudspeaker's in-room response to 20kHz. Separating treble reproduction from the midrange helps the C83 maintain articulation at higher output levels.
FidelityGlass™ Acoustic Panel — JBL's proprietary outer skin acts as both the visible finishing surface and the final acoustic radiator. Its construction is engineered to remain responsive while accepting properly applied decorative materials.
Compression-Molded Structural Baffle — The internal baffle provides a rigid framework for the drivers and acoustic surface. Controlling structural movement helps direct energy into the intended radiating area and minimizes unwanted vibration at the perimeter.
Premium Passive Crossover Network — The crossover divides the incoming full-range amplifier signal among the woofer, midrange, and high-frequency sections. Carefully selected crossover points and component values help the three elements operate as a cohesive loudspeaker.
Sealed Integrated Back Box — The wooden rear enclosure isolates the speaker from the variable volume and construction of the surrounding wall cavity. This supports more predictable performance from installation to installation and limits energy radiating into neighboring spaces.
Self-Resetting Protection System — Independent protective devices monitor the low-frequency and mid/high-frequency sections. If excessive power produces unsafe heat, the protection can temporarily reduce or interrupt output and automatically restore operation after the condition clears.
Hemispherical Room Coverage — The broad radiating panel distributes sound across a wide listening area. This makes the C83 suitable for rooms where listeners may not remain in a single narrow sweet spot.
45Hz–20kHz In-Room Response — The combination of an 8-inch woofer, dedicated upper-frequency transducers, sealed enclosure, and large radiating surface gives the C83 broad usable bandwidth for music and cinema applications.
Four-Ohm Electrical Load — The C83 is designed as a 4-ohm loudspeaker and should be paired with amplification that is rated to drive 4-ohm speakers reliably at the desired listening level.
Gold-Plated Spring-Loaded Binding Posts — Five-way input terminals provide a secure electrical connection and support commonly used speaker-wire termination methods.
Drywall-Patch Installation Method — The speaker is fastened to stable structural framing on all four sides. Its mounting flange is aligned with the adjoining wallboard before the seams are taped and finished.
Controlled Finish Thickness — The acoustic surface is engineered for no more than approximately 1/16 inch of finishing material. Keeping joint compound, plaster, primer, paint, or decorative finish within the approved limit is essential for preserving performance and reliability.
Compatible Decorative Treatments — The completed panel can accept water-based primer and paint, light orange-peel or knock-down texture, wallpaper, veneer, or a level-five wall finish when installed according to JBL's instructions.
New-Construction and Retrofit Compatibility — For new construction, an optional pre-construction board can reserve the opening while wallboard is installed. For retrofit work, the panel can be installed into an existing finished wall using a process similar to creating a structural drywall patch.
Pre-Finish Audio Testing — JBL requires the speaker to be connected and tested before seam finishing begins. Confirming low-, mid-, and high-frequency operation at this stage allows wiring, mounting, or vibration concerns to be corrected while the loudspeaker remains accessible.
Installation-Dependent Final Performance — Invisible loudspeakers depend heavily on framing stability, panel alignment, compound thickness, drying time, sanding, and finish quality. Professional installation helps ensure that the speaker remains invisible without compromising its acoustic output.
No. When professionally installed and finished according to JBL Conceal installation guidelines, the C83 becomes virtually invisible. After taping, mudding, sanding, priming, and painting, there is no visible grille or speaker frame.
Yes. The JBL Conceal C83 is designed for both in-wall and in-ceiling installations, making it suitable for distributed audio, media rooms, dedicated home theaters, and immersive Dolby Atmos systems.
Yes. The FidelityGlass™ acoustic panel is engineered to accept approved decorative finishes, including water-based paint, wallpaper, veneer, and light wall textures. Following JBL's installation recommendations helps preserve the speaker's acoustic performance.
No. The C83 includes an integrated sealed wooden back box that provides consistent acoustic performance while helping reduce sound transmission into adjacent rooms.
