Optical-network ready streaming engine • Discrete FPGA DAC architecture • Dual-mono balanced preamp • Built-in headphone amplifier
The Esoteric N-05XE Network DAC Preamplifier is designed to deliver reference-grade digital playback in a streamlined, space-efficient system. At its core are Esoteric’s next-generation technologies: an optical network-compatible Network Engine G4 and the Master Sound Discrete DAC G2, a discrete FPGA-based conversion platform that avoids off-the-shelf DAC ICs. The result is a component that can serve as a full-featured network streamer, a D/A converter, and a dual-mono balanced preamplifier, with a high-quality built-in headphone amplifier for personal listening.
Fully dual-mono construction keeps left/right analog and power supply circuits independent for lower interference and cleaner channel separation.
Master Sound Discrete DAC G2 — A next-generation discrete DAC architecture that uses FPGA-based circuitry with independent processing algorithms for PCM and DSD. A proprietary high-precision clock circuit is also employed for timing stability.
Esoteric Network Engine G4 — Built for high-performance streaming and file playback with optical network support via SFP, native DSD 22.5 MHz playback capability, and a music server function supporting up to two USB drives.
Dual-mono balanced preamplifier — A dual-mono, dual balanced preamp section derived from Esoteric’s Grandioso design approach, with dedicated attenuator power supply and a high-current buffer stage for consistent drive.
Connectivity for complete digital systems — Includes a wide range of digital inputs and integration features such as a front USB-C DAC input, an ES-Link (XLR) digital input for compatible Esoteric transports, and a 10 MHz clock input for external master clock synchronization.
Wireless convenience — Bluetooth support is included with high-quality codec support noted by the manufacturer and press coverage.
It can serve as a network streamer, DAC, and balanced preamp in one chassis, allowing you to connect a power amplifier directly and keep the signal path clean and simple.
Yes. The Network Engine G4 supports optical network connections via an SFP port.
Yes. The built-in headphone section is a dedicated dual-mono design with both 4-pin XLR and 6.3mm outputs, rated at 1,200 mW + 1,200 mW into 32 Ω.
