Benchmark AHB2 Ultra High Resolution Stereo Power Amplifier in Silver (Open Box Like New)

Ultra-Low-Noise Stereo Power Amplifier • Patented THX-AAA Technology • 100W/8Ω & 190W/4Ω • Bridged-Mono Operation • 29A Peak Current • Balanced XLR Inputs • SpeakON & Binding Post Outputs

Ultra-Low Distortion Power Amplification for Reference Two-Channel Systems

The Benchmark AHB2 Ultra High Resolution Stereo Power Amplifier in Silver is engineered to deliver exceptionally low noise and distortion while maintaining the speed, current capability and stability required by demanding loudspeakers. In stereo operation it provides 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 190 watts into 4 ohms and 259 watts into 2 ohms, with both channels driven and Benchmark's conservative full-power distortion specification held below 0.0003% THD+N across the 20Hz–20kHz audio band.

The AHB2 combines a linear Class-AB output stage with Class-H tracking power rails and Benchmark's patented THX-AAA feed-forward error correction. This architecture reduces distortion without relying solely on conventional feedback while preserving stability into difficult capacitive, inductive and low-impedance loads. Three selectable input-sensitivity settings, balanced XLR inputs, high-current SpeakON outputs, traditional binding posts and switchable bridged-mono operation make the AHB2 equally suited to audiophile listening rooms, professional monitoring environments and high-output reference systems.

Highlights & Benefits

  • Patented THX-AAA Feed-Forward Error Correction — Reduces amplifier-generated distortion by approximately 30–40dB while maintaining stability across difficult loudspeaker loads.
  • 100W/8Ω to 259W/2Ω Stereo Output — Delivers substantial real-world current capability while maintaining Benchmark's exceptionally low full-power distortion specification.
  • 380W Bridged-Mono Power into 8 Ohms — A rear-panel mode switch converts the AHB2 into a high-output monoblock, providing a straightforward upgrade path for larger rooms and demanding systems.
  • 132dB A-Weighted Stereo SNR — Exceptionally low output noise creates a near-silent background even with high-sensitivity loudspeakers.
  • Three Selectable Gain Settings — 9.2dB, 17dB and 23dB settings optimize the amplifier for professional balanced sources, high-output Hi-Fi preamps or lower-voltage consumer sources.

Technology & Design

THX-AAA Feed-Forward Correction — A separate correction amplifier identifies and cancels errors generated by the main output stage. Unlike a purely feedback-based approach, the correction path is non-recursive and inherently stable across challenging phase angles and impedance loads.

Class-AB Output with Class-H Tracking Rails — The AHB2 retains a linear Class-AB output stage while its regulated power supply dynamically tracks the audio signal, improving efficiency and reducing unnecessary heat compared with a conventional fixed-rail Class-AB amplifier.

Ultra-Wide 0.1Hz–200kHz Response — Extended bandwidth supports excellent phase linearity and transient accuracy while avoiding the ultrasonic switching noise associated with Class-D amplifier output stages.

Fully Electronic Protection — Protection circuitry monitors distortion, short circuits, over-current, temperature and safe operating area without placing output relays or other performance-compromising protection devices directly in the loudspeaker signal path.

FAQ — Benchmark AHB2

How much power does the Benchmark AHB2 produce?

In stereo mode, Benchmark rates the AHB2 at 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 190 watts into 4 ohms and 259 watts into 2 ohms with both channels driven. These ratings are specified at less than 0.0003% THD+N rather than the more commonly used 1% distortion point.

Can the AHB2 be used as a monoblock amplifier?

Yes. The rear-panel mode switch converts the AHB2 to bridged-mono operation. In this configuration it produces 380 watts into 8 ohms, 480 watts into 6 ohms and 518 watts into 4 ohms.

Does the Benchmark AHB2 have RCA inputs?

The AHB2 uses balanced XLR inputs. An unbalanced RCA source can be connected with properly wired RCA-to-XLR adapter cables, and Benchmark recommends using the Mid- or High-Gain setting with unbalanced sources.

What preamplifiers pair well with the AHB2?

Benchmark's LA4 Reference Line Amplifier and HPA4 Headphone/Line Amplifier are natural partners because their balanced output levels and low-noise performance are well matched to the AHB2. Other compatible balanced preamplifiers and DAC/control units can also be used.
