The Backert Labs Rhythm 1.4a Preamplifier is the flagship expression of Backert Labs' approach to high-performance tube linestage design. Building on the Rhythm 1.4 platform, the new 1.4a adds pure silver wire in select areas, new chassis-ground technology and redesigned circuit-board layouts intended to further improve clarity, texture and stereo imaging while retaining the advanced GreenForce power supply, proprietary Class A gain stage and premium mechanical construction of the established Rhythm.
Two carefully selected 12AU7-family tubes operate within a zero-negative-feedback signal path supported by a power supply engineered specifically for speed, low noise and dynamic accuracy. Fully balanced XLR connectivity, dual-mono transformer windings, fluoropolymer power-supply capacitors, a solid-brass circuit-board support panel, IsoAcoustics Gaia feet, automatic tube bias and an all-machined aluminum chassis make the Rhythm 1.4a Backert Labs' most ambitious linestage for reference-level two-channel systems.
The 1.4a Evolution — The Backert Labs Rhythm 1.4a Preamplifier retains the core engineering of the Rhythm 1.4 while introducing the newest Backert Labs refinements. Pure silver wire is incorporated in select locations to improve clarity and texture, revised chassis-ground technology addresses grounding behavior, and newly developed circuit-board layouts are intended to further improve imaging.
Patented GreenForce Power Supply — Rhythm uses Backert Labs' GreenForce architecture to actively regulate and deliver power to the gain stage. Its flagship implementation incorporates premium fluoropolymer capacitors in the raw B+ supply, an unusual approach made possible by the GreenForce design and selected for its speed, low dielectric absorption and transient performance.
Class A Gain Stage with Automatic Bias — Two 12AU7 or equivalent tubes operate at exceptionally low voltage within Backert Labs' proprietary Class A gain circuit. The design uses zero global or local negative feedback, while automatic and continuous tube-bias adjustment maintains appropriate operating conditions throughout the tubes' service life.
Reference Mechanical Construction — The Rhythm chassis is machined from solid aluminum and uses a solid-brass bottom panel to support the circuit board. IsoAcoustics Gaia feet provide mechanical isolation, while a top-mounted acrylic tube door allows the two tubes to be changed without tools.
The Rhythm 1.4a adds three principal improvements to the 1.4 platform: pure silver wire in select areas for improved clarity and texture, new chassis-ground technology, and new circuit-board layouts designed to improve imaging.
Yes. This Backert Labs Rhythm 1.4a Preamplifier is built to order. Typical lead time is approximately 10–14 business days before shipment.
The Rhythm 1.4a uses only two 12AU7 or equivalent tubes. Backert Labs selects its stock tubes for low noise and musical performance, while automatic bias helps maintain appropriate operating conditions.
Yes. A dedicated RCA Home Theater Bypass input passes the front-channel signal from a compatible processor or A/V receiver without requiring the Rhythm to be powered on, so its tubes do not need to remain energized during home theater playback.
Power amplifier, source components, interconnect cables, loudspeakers and other system components are sold separately.
