The Backert Labs Rhumba Extreme 1.4a Linestage Tube Preamp advances the acclaimed Rhumba Extreme platform with the latest refinements from Backert Labs. Building upon the dual-mono power architecture, Class A circuitry, fully balanced connectivity and premium mechanical construction of the Rhumba Extreme 1.4, the new 1.4a introduces pure silver wire in select areas, new chassis-ground technology and redesigned circuit-board layouts developed to further improve clarity, texture and stereo imaging.

At its core, the Rhumba Extreme remains Backert Labs' bridge between the Rhumba and flagship Rhythm. Two 12AU7-family tubes operate within a zero-negative-feedback Class A circuit supported by Backert Labs' patented GreenForce power-supply technology. Dual-mono regulation, premium polypropylene capacitors, a solid-brass bottom panel, IsoAcoustics Gaia isolation feet and extensive balanced and single-ended connectivity make the Rhumba Extreme 1.4a equally suited to ambitious tube, solid-state and hybrid high-end audio systems.

Dual-Mono GreenForce Power Supply — The Extreme employs a fully dual-mono implementation of Backert Labs' patented GreenForce power-supply technology. Premium polypropylene capacitors are used extensively throughout the power supply, supporting the fast and dynamic presentation for which Backert Labs designs are known.

Class A Tube Signal Path & Automatic Bias — Two 12AU7 or equivalent tubes operate within Backert Labs' Class A gain stage without global or local negative feedback. Automatic and continuous tube-bias adjustment maintains appropriate operating conditions as tubes age or when compatible replacement tubes are installed.

Balanced Architecture & Premium Mechanical Design — Two fully balanced XLR input pairs and two fully balanced XLR output pairs accompany three RCA inputs and two RCA outputs. A solid-brass bottom panel provides a substantial foundation for the internal circuitry, while IsoAcoustics Gaia feet mechanically isolate the chassis from its supporting surface.
