Portable USB DAC • Preamplifier • Headphone Amplifier • 32-Bit ESS Sabre DAC • Asynchronous USB Audio • Copper-Plated RF-Draining Enclosure • USB-C DragonTail Adapter Included
The AudioQuest DragonFly Copper USB Digital-to-Analog Converter is a compact USB DAC, preamplifier and headphone amplifier designed to improve music playback from laptops, desktop computers, tablets and compatible smartphones. By bypassing the basic audio circuitry built into these devices, DragonFly Copper delivers a cleaner, clearer and more naturally expressive analog signal to wired headphones, powered speakers or a complete home audio system.
DragonFly Copper combines a highly efficient 32-bit ESS Sabre DAC and headphone-amplifier chip with twice the output power of any previous DragonFly model. It also draws approximately 25% less current, helping reduce battery consumption when used with compatible mobile devices. A copper-plated enclosure improves the drainage of radio-frequency noise, while the included DragonTail USB-C adapter makes the DAC ready for modern USB-C computers, tablets and smartphones.
ESS Sabre DAC and Headphone-Amplifier Chip — The AudioQuest DragonFly Copper USB Digital-to-Analog Converter uses a modern 32-bit ESS Sabre chip selected for its combination of efficiency, low distortion and powerful headphone output. AudioQuest designer Gordon Rankin optimized the supporting circuitry to reduce distortion significantly below that of previous DragonFly models.
Streamlength Asynchronous USB Transfer — DragonFly Copper manages the timing of incoming USB audio instead of relying on the connected computer or mobile device to control critical clocking functions. AudioQuest’s Streamlength asynchronous USB implementation is designed to reduce jitter, minimize packet errors and provide reliable plug-and-play operation.
64-Bit Bit-Perfect Digital Volume Control — A sophisticated 64-step, 64-bit digital volume system allows the connected computer, phone or tablet to control the DragonFly’s onboard output level. This design is intended to preserve resolution and sound quality throughout the volume range.
Copper-Plated RF-Draining Enclosure — DragonFly Copper’s high-conductivity copper-plated case is more than a visual design feature. Inspired by AudioQuest’s RF-draining cable hardware, the enclosure helps dissipate radio-frequency noise that could otherwise interfere with sensitive digital and analog audio circuitry.
Yes. The AudioQuest DragonFly Copper USB Digital-to-Analog Converter is compatible with supported iOS and Android devices that provide audio over USB. The included DragonTail adapter supports USB-C devices. Apple products with Lightning connectors require a compatible Apple Camera Adapter, sold separately.
DragonFly Copper supports audio playback at 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz and 96kHz. Files recorded at higher sampling rates can still be played when the connected device or playback software converts them to a supported rate.
Yes. Its 3.5mm analog output can connect to a compatible preamplifier, integrated amplifier, receiver or pair of powered speakers using the appropriate analog interconnect cable. When used as a fixed-level source, system volume is controlled by the connected amplifier or receiver.
No. DragonFly Copper meets USB Audio Class standards and is designed for driver-free operation with supported Apple, Windows, iOS and Android devices. Device compatibility and USB-audio implementation can vary by manufacturer.
Headphones, smartphone, tablet, computer, Apple Lightning Camera Adapter, analog interconnect cables, powered speakers and USB noise filters are sold separately.
