Precision CD Transport Engineering for External DACs and Digital Amplifiers

The Audiolab 7000CDT CD Transport (No Built-In DAC) is designed specifically for listeners who want high-quality digital extraction from compact discs without paying for an internal digital-to-analog converter they may not need. Its high-precision optical mechanism, read-ahead digital buffer and carefully controlled clocking system work together to extract digital audio accurately from CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs before sending the signal to an external DAC or compatible amplifier through coaxial or optical S/PDIF.

Building on the architecture of Audiolab's 6000CDT while incorporating technologies derived from the flagship 9000CDT, the 7000CDT adds USB storage playback and a 2.8-inch full-color IPS display. A sturdy aluminum base, mechanically isolated transport assembly and electromagnetically shielded enclosure help reduce vibration and interference, while a dedicated power supply supports clean digital-signal extraction throughout the playback chain.

Highlights & Benefits

  • Purpose-Built CD Transport — Contains no built-in DAC or analog outputs, allowing it to concentrate on accurate digital extraction for use with an external DAC or digital-equipped amplifier.
  • Read-Ahead Digital Buffer — Helps reduce disc-reading errors and improves playback reliability with scratched or damaged CDs that may challenge conventional mechanisms.
  • Low-Jitter Digital Output — A high-accuracy crystal oscillator controls the master clock to help minimize timing errors at the coaxial and optical outputs.
  • USB Storage Playback — Play MP3, WMA, AAC and WAV files directly from compatible FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32 USB storage devices.
  • 2.8-Inch Full-Color IPS Display — Clearly presents source, folder, track, format and system information through an easy-to-read graphical interface.

Technology & Design

High-Precision Optical Mechanism — Audiolab uses a dedicated CD transport assembly with a read-ahead digital buffer to improve data retrieval and reduce playback interruptions caused by imperfect disc surfaces.

High-Accuracy Master Clock — A precision crystal oscillator controls the outgoing digital signal, helping maintain extremely low jitter through both coaxial and optical S/PDIF connections.

Differential Coaxial Output Driver — The coaxial digital output is fed by a differential line driver engineered to preserve signal integrity as digital data travels to the connected DAC.

Mechanically Isolated Transport — A low-friction loading tray, sturdy aluminum base, shielded transport enclosure and dedicated power supply help control vibration and electromagnetic interference around the disc mechanism.

FAQ — Audiolab 7000CDT

Does the Audiolab 7000CDT have a built-in DAC?

No. The 7000CDT is a dedicated CD transport and does not include digital-to-analog conversion or analog audio outputs. It must be connected through coaxial or optical digital output to an external DAC, integrated amplifier, preamplifier or receiver with a compatible digital input.

What discs can the 7000CDT play?

Audiolab specifies compatibility with standard CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs. The transport outputs conventional 44.1kHz digital audio from CD playback.

Can the 7000CDT play music from a USB drive?

Yes. The rear USB connection supports compatible storage devices formatted as FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32 and can play MP3, WMA, AAC and WAV audio files.

Can the 7000CDT connect directly to the Audiolab 7000A?

Yes. The 7000A includes digital inputs and its own DAC, so the 7000CDT can connect directly through coaxial or optical S/PDIF. The two components can also be linked through their 12V trigger connections for coordinated power operation.
