Audio-Technica Hotaru Limited-Edition Floating Turntable with Light & Sound
Limited-edition art-concept turntable • Firefly-inspired kinetic ambient lighting • Floating visual architecture with suspended sub-chassis • Precision belt-drive DC motor • Pre-installed Audio-Technica moving magnet cartridge • Built-in switchable phono/line preamplifier • 33-1/3 and 45 RPM speeds
The Audio-Technica Hotaru Limited-Edition Floating Turntable with Light & Sound transforms analog music listening into an immersive multisensory ritual. Drawing its name and aesthetic from the Japanese word for firefly ("Hotaru"), this concept-driven design features an elevated, visually suspended platter plinth paired with a responsive warm-spectrum ambient lighting element that pulses with the organic cadences of spinning vinyl. Engineered with high-precision belt-drive mechanics, an acoustically damped acrylic platter, and Audio-Technica's proven moving magnet phono cartridge platform, it delivers crisp, dynamic analog fidelity alongside an ethereal visual centerpiece for modern design-conscious living spaces.
Key Features & Innovations
"Hotaru" ambient light & sound integration — integrated diffuse LED illumination array emits an organic, warm-temperature glow that interacts gently with platter rotation to evoke the delicate light of evening fireflies.
Floating architectural visual plinth — cantilevered floating sub-chassis architecture isolates structural mass, creating the visual illusion of a levitating platter while dampening acoustic room vibrations.
Precision belt-drive rotation — electronically controlled low-noise DC motor delivers smooth rotational torque and low wow and flutter across 33-1/3 and 45 RPM records.
Pre-calibrated moving magnet phono cartridge — factory-aligned Audio-Technica Dual Moving Magnet cartridge with bonded diamond stylus provides balanced stereo imaging, rich bass, and gentle groove tracking straight out of the box.
Resonance-damped frosted acrylic platter — high-density acrylic construction naturally matches the mechanical impedance of vinyl records, eliminating platter ringing and static buildup.
Built-in switchable phono preamplifier — selectable PHONO and LINE analog output switch allows direct plug-and-play hookup to powered speakers, soundbars, or dedicated stereo amplifiers.
Tactile minimalist controls — flush-mount illuminated control buttons manage motor speed, cueing, and lighting modes without disrupting the streamlined sculptural aesthetic.
Does the platter literally levitate using magnetic levitation?
No. The Audio-Technica Hotaru utilizes a precision "floating visual chassis" design. It sits on a concealed central isolation pillar and decoupled suspension feet beneath an under-cut plinth, creating the striking aesthetic appearance of a floating player while ensuring rock-solid mechanical stability and consistent tracking force.
Can the ambient lighting effect be turned off during listening?
Yes. The illumination system features multiple operating states, including dynamic pulse, steady warm glow, and completely off, allowing you to tailor the lighting ambience to your room.
Do I need an external phono preamp or stereo receiver to play records?
No external preamp is required. The integrated switchable preamplifier allows you to select "LINE" output and connect directly to any pair of powered speakers (such as the Audio-Technica AT-SP3X) or an auxiliary audio input using the included RCA cable.
Can the stylus be replaced when worn?
Yes. The pre-installed moving magnet cartridge features a user-replaceable diamond stylus assembly that unclips easily for quick maintenance and future profile upgrades.
