The Audio-Technica AT-VM95SH/H Headshell/Cartridge Combo Kit combines the AT-VM95SH dual moving magnet cartridge with Audio-Technica's black AT-HS6BK universal headshell in a convenient pre-mounted assembly. Its nude Shibata stylus uses a sophisticated 2.7 × 0.26 mil contact profile designed to trace a broad section of the groove wall, helping retrieve subtle musical detail, reproduce extended high-frequency information and maintain precise tracking through complex passages.
The VM95 dual-magnet generator provides strong stereo separation and a 3.5 mV output suitable for conventional moving-magnet phono stages, while an aluminum-pipe cantilever provides a lightweight and rigid connection between the stylus and generator. The modular cartridge body accepts compatible AT-VMN95 replacement styli, giving the AT-VM95SH/H a straightforward path for future stylus replacement or experimentation with other VM95 stylus profiles.
2.7 × 0.26 mil Nude Shibata Diamond — The Shibata profile uses a narrow horizontal contact radius combined with an extended vertical contact area, allowing the stylus to trace fine groove modulation while spreading contact over a larger section of the groove wall.
Nude Square-Shank Construction — The diamond is mounted directly to the cantilever rather than bonded to a separate metal shank, reducing moving mass and supporting responsive transient reproduction.
Aluminum-Pipe Cantilever — Lightweight aluminum efficiently transfers stylus movement to the cartridge generator while providing the rigidity required for accurate groove tracking.
AT-HS6BK Universal Headshell — The included headshell provides a standard half-inch cartridge mounting platform and is designed for compatible removable-headshell tonearms, making cartridge installation and swapping more convenient.
The AT-VM95SH/H combines the AT-VM95SH dual moving magnet cartridge and AT-VMN95SH nude Shibata stylus with a black AT-HS6BK headshell.
Audio-Technica specifies a vertical tracking-force range of 1.8 to 2.2 grams, with 2.0 grams as the standard recommended setting.
Yes. The direct replacement is the AT-VMN95SH, and the cartridge body also accepts other compatible AT-VMN95 stylus assemblies. This allows the stylus profile to be changed without replacing the cartridge body.
Audio-Technica specifies an approximate replacement-stylus life of 800 hours for the Shibata stylus under appropriate operating conditions. Actual service life can vary with record cleanliness, cartridge alignment, tracking-force setup and stylus care.
