VMx 700 Series • Nude Microlinear Stylus • Solid Boron Cantilever • Dual Moving Magnet • PCUHD Coils • Die-Cast Aluminum Body • ½-Inch Mount
The Audio-Technica AT-VM745xML VMx Microlinear MM Phono Cartridge combines Audio-Technica’s premium VMx Dual Moving Magnet architecture with a nude Microlinear stylus and solid boron cantilever for exceptionally precise vinyl playback. Its 2.2 × 0.12 mil Microlinear profile is engineered to trace complex groove modulations with exceptional accuracy, helping retrieve subtle musical information while maintaining excellent performance through demanding inner-groove passages.
As part of the premium VMx 700 Series, the cartridge incorporates PCUHD copper coil conductors, paratoroidal coil construction, a center shielding plate, a rigid die-cast aluminum body and convenient threaded mounting inserts. The solid boron cantilever distinguishes the AT-VM745xML from the aluminum-cantilever AT-VM740xML, providing a highly rigid, low-mass connection between the stylus and generator for responsive tracking and detailed transient reproduction.
VMx Dual Moving Magnet Generator — Separate magnets correspond to the left and right channels of the stereo record groove, closely mirroring the configuration of a stereo cutter head for accurate channel reproduction and imaging.
Paratoroidal Coil Construction — Two coils per channel are arranged in a paratoroidal configuration to improve generator efficiency. A center shielding plate separates the left and right channels to reduce electrical crosstalk and preserve stereo separation.
Microlinear Groove Contact — The advanced Microlinear stylus profile uses a very small curvature radius to follow high-frequency groove information with greater precision than conventional elliptical or conical stylus profiles.
Premium Boron Cantilever — Unlike the AT-VM740xML’s tapered aluminum cantilever, the AT-VM745xML uses a solid boron design. Its combination of rigidity and low mass allows the stylus assembly to respond rapidly to fine groove modulation.
The AT-VM745xML is a moving-magnet cartridge designed for a compatible MM phono input or MM phono preamplifier. Audio-Technica recommends a load impedance of 47 kΩ and load capacitance of 150–250 pF.
Audio-Technica specifies a tracking-force range of 1.8 to 2.2 grams, with 2.0 grams as the standard recommended setting.
The direct replacement is the Audio-Technica AT-VMN45xML nude Microlinear stylus with solid boron cantilever. The stereo VMx cartridge platform also supports a range of compatible interchangeable VMx stylus options.
Both cartridges use a nude 2.2 × 0.12 mil Microlinear stylus, but the AT-VM745xML upgrades the cantilever to 0.28 mm solid boron rather than tapered aluminum. The AT-VM745xML is also specified for 20–27,000 Hz frequency response, 3.7 mV output and 26 dB channel separation, compared with 20–25,000 Hz, 3.2 mV and 25 dB for the AT-VM740xML.
Headshell, turntable, phono preamplifier, cartridge alignment tools, tracking-force gauge and other system components are sold separately unless otherwise specified.
