For Mono Microgroove Records • 0.6 mil Bonded Conical Stylus • Dual Moving Magnet • Internally Connected Mono Body • PCUHD Coils • Aluminum Cantilever • ½-Inch Mount
The Audio-Technica AT-VM610xMONO VMx Dual MM Cartridge is engineered specifically for mono microgroove records, combining Audio-Technica’s VMx Dual Moving Magnet architecture with a 0.6 mil bonded conical stylus. Its internally connected left and right channels help suppress vertically generated surface noise while creating a stable, focused center image that is better suited to true mono playback than a conventional stereo cartridge.
The redesigned VMx platform adds PCUHD copper coil conductors, fewer coil turns for improved transient response, paratoroidal generator construction, threaded mounting inserts and a durable low-resonance polymer body. With a 5.0 mV output and standard 47 kΩ loading, the AT-VM610xMONO integrates easily with compatible moving-magnet phono stages while offering a purpose-built solution for listeners with substantial mono LP collections.
VMx Dual Moving Magnet Architecture — Audio-Technica uses dual magnets within the cartridge generator, but the channels are internally connected for mono reproduction, helping reduce vertical-noise components that are not part of the intended mono signal.
Paratoroidal Coil Construction — The generator uses Audio-Technica’s paratoroidal coil arrangement to improve efficiency and transient response while maintaining consistent moving-magnet output.
0.6 mil Conical Groove Contact — The bonded conical stylus is optimized for conventional mono microgroove records, providing stable groove contact without the larger 3.0 mil profile required for historic 78 RPM SP records.
Low-Resonance Polymer Housing — The durable polymer body keeps total cartridge weight to 7.2 grams while providing a stable mechanical platform for the generator and stylus assembly.
No. The AT-VM610xMONO is designed for mono microgroove records and uses a 0.6 mil stylus. For 78 RPM SP and shellac records, Audio-Technica offers the AT-VM670xSP with a much larger 3.0 mil stylus.
Audio-Technica specifies a tracking-force range of 1.8 to 2.2 grams, with 2.0 grams as the standard recommended setting.
The direct replacement is the Audio-Technica AT-VMN10xCB, which uses the same 0.6 mil bonded conical stylus and aluminum cantilever.
The cartridge is designed for a compatible moving-magnet phono input or MM phono preamplifier. Audio-Technica recommends a 47 kΩ load impedance and 150–250 pF load capacitance.
Headshell, turntable, phono preamplifier, cartridge alignment tools and other system components are sold separately unless otherwise specified.
