The Audio-Technica AT-VM510xCB VMx Dual MM Conical Cartridge brings the core technologies of Audio-Technica's redesigned VMx cartridge family to an accessible conical-stylus model. Its 0.6 mil bonded conical stylus provides stable, dependable groove tracking and is less sensitive to precise alignment than more advanced stylus profiles, making the cartridge an excellent choice for everyday vinyl playback and turntable upgrades.
Behind the stylus, Audio-Technica's Dual Moving Magnet generator uses paratoroidal coils, PCUHD copper conductors and a center shielding plate to deliver clean stereo reproduction with improved electrical efficiency. A durable low-resonance polymer body and threaded mounting inserts further enhance usability, while the interchangeable VMx stylus platform provides a convenient upgrade path should you later want to move to elliptical, Microlinear, Shibata or other compatible stereo VMx stylus options.
VMx Generator Architecture — Audio-Technica positions two moving magnets to correspond with the left and right walls of a stereo record groove, closely mirroring the geometry of the cutter head used to create the record.
Paratoroidal Coil Construction — Two coils per channel are arranged in a paratoroidal configuration to improve generator efficiency, channel separation, channel balance and transient response.
Conical Groove Contact — The 0.6 mil bonded conical stylus uses a symmetrical rounded tip that provides consistent groove contact and is less affected by alignment position than more complex stylus geometries.
Interchangeable VMx Stylus Platform — The AT-VM510xCB uses the AT-VMN10xCB as its direct replacement stylus, while its stereo VMx cartridge body supports a broad selection of compatible VMx replacement styli for future upgrades.
The AT-VM510xCB is a moving-magnet cartridge intended for a compatible MM phono input or moving-magnet phono preamplifier. As with other VMx stereo cartridges, proper phono-stage loading and turntable setup help ensure optimum performance.
A conical stylus has a symmetrical rounded profile that is relatively insensitive to small alignment variations. This makes it a durable, easy-to-use choice for everyday listening while still benefiting from the improved generator technology of the VMx platform.
The direct replacement is the Audio-Technica AT-VMN10xCB bonded conical stylus. The stereo VMx body is also compatible with most other stereo VMx stylus options, making future stylus-profile upgrades straightforward.
The primary difference is the stylus profile. The AT-VM510xCB uses a 0.6 mil bonded conical stylus for stable, forgiving tracking, while the AT-VM520xEB uses a 0.3 × 0.7 mil bonded elliptical stylus designed to trace finer groove information with greater precision.
Headshell, turntable, phono preamplifier, cartridge alignment tools, tracking-force gauge and other accessories are sold separately unless otherwise specified.
