Audio-Technica AT-OC9XEB Dual Moving Coil Cartridge

Dual Moving Coil Stereo Cartridge • Bonded Elliptical Stylus • Aluminum Cantilever • PCOCC Coils • Aluminum Body • 20–30,000 Hz Frequency Response

Accessible OC9X Moving Coil Performance with Elliptical Groove Tracking

The Audio-Technica AT-OC9XEB Dual Moving Coil Cartridge brings Audio-Technica's established OC9X moving-coil architecture to a practical bonded elliptical stylus design. Its 0.3 × 0.7 mil elliptical diamond provides more precise groove contact than a conventional conical stylus, helping deliver clear musical detail, defined stereo imaging and controlled tracking across a wide variety of vinyl recordings.

Independent moving coils for the left and right channels use PCOCC copper wire and a reverse V-shaped configuration designed to reduce mechanical pressure on the stylus assembly and help minimize distortion. A rigid aluminum body, neodymium magnet and pure iron yoke support efficient signal generation and resonance control. With its low 0.32 mV output, the AT-OC9XEB is intended for systems equipped with a compatible moving-coil phono stage, head amplifier or step-up transformer.

Highlights & Benefits

  • Bonded Elliptical Stylus — The 0.3 × 0.7 mil profile provides accurate groove contact and improved tracing compared with a basic conical stylus.
  • Independent Dual Moving Coils — Separate left- and right-channel coils support strong stereo separation and precise channel reproduction.
  • PCOCC Coil Wire — Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting is used for the coil windings to support clean and highly conductive signal transmission.
  • Reverse V-Shaped Coil Alignment — The moving coils are arranged to reduce pressure on the stylus assembly and help minimize distortion during playback.
  • Rigid Aluminum Body — The cartridge housing helps control unwanted vibration and resonance while providing a stable foundation for the generator.

Technology & Design

0.3 × 0.7 mil Bonded Elliptical Stylus — The elliptical diamond provides more focused groove-wall contact than a conical profile, helping improve high-frequency tracing and musical detail while maintaining practical everyday usability.

Reverse V-Shaped Coil Configuration — Audio-Technica positions the left and right moving coils in a reverse V formation to reduce stylus pressure and support lower-distortion signal generation.

Neodymium Magnet and Pure Iron Yoke — The high-energy magnetic circuit concentrates magnetic flux around the moving coils for efficient conversion of groove motion into an electrical signal.

Pre-Threaded Aluminum Housing — Integrated M2.6 threaded mounting holes allow the cartridge to be secured with two screws without separate nuts, simplifying installation on compatible headshells and tonearms.

FAQ — Audio-Technica AT-OC9XEB

What type of stylus does the AT-OC9XEB use?

The AT-OC9XEB uses a bonded elliptical diamond stylus with a 0.3 × 0.7 mil curvature radius mounted to an aluminum pipe cantilever.

What tracking force should I use with the AT-OC9XEB?

Audio-Technica specifies a vertical tracking-force range of 1.8 to 2.2 grams, with 2.0 grams as the standard recommended setting.

Does the AT-OC9XEB require a moving-coil phono stage?

Yes. The AT-OC9XEB has a low 0.32 mV output and should be connected to a compatible MC phono input, moving-coil phono preamplifier, head amplifier or suitable step-up transformer. Audio-Technica specifies a recommended load impedance of at least 100 ohms when a head amplifier is used.

How does the AT-OC9XEB differ from the AT-OC9XEN?

The primary difference is the stylus construction. The AT-OC9XEB uses a bonded elliptical stylus, while the AT-OC9XEN uses a nude elliptical stylus. The nude design reduces moving mass and is positioned as the next performance step within the OC9X lineup.
