Limited-Production Two-Way Stand-Mount Loudspeakers • 29mm Alloy-Dome Tweeter • 125mm Spun Ceramic-Alloy Driver • RSC Cabinet Construction • Twin Front-Firing Reflex Ports • Magnetic Grilles
The Acoustic Energy AE1 40th Anniversary Edition Bookshelf Speakers (Pair) reinterpret the loudspeaker that established Acoustic Energy’s reputation for extracting exceptional dynamics, clarity and bass performance from a compact enclosure. Developed from the ground up using newly engineered components, this anniversary model preserves the fast, energetic character of the original AE1 while improving efficiency, lowering distortion and making its revealing performance easier to integrate into a modern hi-fi system.
A newly developed 125mm spun ceramic-alloy mid/bass driver works with a larger 29mm ferrofluid-cooled alloy-dome tweeter and a minimalist, low-order crossover. The compact cabinet incorporates Acoustic Energy’s Resonance Suppression Composite material and twin front-facing reflex ports, while ten layers of high-gloss finish give each speaker a rich, furniture-grade appearance in High Gloss Black or High Gloss Walnut.
Spun and Hard-Anodized Ceramic-Alloy Cone — The 125mm mid/bass cone uses a straight-sided aluminum profile formed by spinning rather than conventional pressing. A thick, hard-anodized ceramic coating is applied to both sides to increase stiffness and help maintain controlled pistonic motion.
Low-Distortion Motor Assembly — A thermally conductive aluminum voice coil works with a powerful magnetic motor structure. An aluminum shorting ring reduces distortion caused by changes in voice-coil inductance as the driver moves.
Low-Order Anniversary Crossover — Inspired by the original AE1 Signature, the crossover uses low-order filters and carefully selected components to maintain a natural midrange, forgiving treble and lively dynamic response throughout the speaker’s operating range.
RSC Cabinet with Twin Front Ports — The enclosure incorporates Acoustic Energy’s Resonance Suppression Composite material and two front-facing reflex ports. This design supports the speaker’s compact dimensions while helping simplify placement relative to nearby room boundaries.
They are passive loudspeakers and require connection to a compatible integrated amplifier, stereo receiver or separate power amplifier. Speaker cables and amplification are sold separately.
The speakers have a six-ohm nominal impedance, 87dB sensitivity and 150-watt power-handling rating. A high-quality amplifier with stable current delivery is recommended, particularly for louder listening levels or larger rooms.
Yes. Acoustic Energy intends the AE1 40th Anniversary for use on rigid floor stands that position the tweeters close to seated ear height. Stand mounting also helps improve imaging, bass definition and cabinet isolation.
The twin reflex ports are located on the front baffle, giving the speakers greater placement flexibility than many rear-ported designs. Final spacing should still be adjusted according to room acoustics, bass balance and listening position.
Speaker stands, amplifier, source components, speaker cables, interconnects and powered subwoofer are sold separately.
