The Thorens Stabiliser holds the record on the platter and helps reduce minor warps, which helps the stylus to track record grooves more accurately and deliver a better sound with more sonic detail and harmonics. The Record Stabilser record weight is supplied in a fancy wooden box to keep it safe from damage.
