Following in the footsteps of the highly acclaimed LRS, the LRS+ takes it up a notch. The LRS+ isn’t a model change by adding a + symbol, not even close.

It sounds like a completely different and much better speaker than the LRS. The LRS+ has the positive attributes of any other dipole speaker of its size, but is significantly better in a few ways. The LRS+ has a much better capability to resolve detail. The bass is much more accurate and has much better detail than the LRS, bass notes are more precise and much sharper.

The biggest improvement is in the upper registers, especially on vocals and string instruments. The LRS+ has really improved in every facet, some more noticeable than others, but clearly improved so much, it deserved a completely different model number, not a suffix. The LRS+ more closely resemble a live intimate performance more than any other Magnepan anywhere near this price point. I've been in the industry for over 40 years and I'm not often surprised by a model upgrade. I found myself listening like a dog with it's head tilted to one side curious about what he was seeing, in this case, what he was hearing.

What is a ribbon speaker?
Ribbon and electrostatic speakers are elegant and simple. The air is moved and sound waves are created by moving an ultra-light film or aluminum ribbon. Ultra-low mass enables the ribbon to respond quickly to the electrical signal from the amplifier. What you hear is higher definition.
